Colorado State Park - San Luis
Back to Main
Area Map
In the shadow of the Great Sand Dunes National Monument, sits peaceful San Luis State Park and Wildlife Area. Nestled among low sand dunes in this unique desert are wildlife-laden wetlands and approximately nine miles of easy, level hiking and biking trails. Waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds and raptors fill the sky over this outstanding watchable wildlife area most of the year. In addition, big game such as deer and elk can be seen roaming the surrounding ranchland. Bison are found at the nearby Rocky Mountain Bison Ranch.

San Luis State Park features a modern campground with showers and electricity, fishing, windsurfing, boating, water skiing, picnicking and photographic opportunities. The park is located just 15 minutes west of the Great Sand Dunes on the Los Caminos Antiquos Scenic and Historic Byway.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Great Sand Dunes National Mounument and Preserve provide a beautiful view across the lake.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE CAMPGROUND IS CLOSED FOR THE SEASON FROM DECEMBER 15 THROUGH LATE MAY. For group camping information call the Lathrop State Park Office @ 719-738-2376. Please pack out all the trash that you pack in! The Mosca Campground is located in a high desert valley, there are no trees. However, all of the campsites and picnic areas do have shade shelters over the picnic tables. Be prepared for changing weather conditions, high winds are common. Fires are permitted in designated grills only.
